Neighbourhood Safer Places
Increasing the safety of you and your family in the event of a bushfire requires a range of options. We recommend that all people living in a bushfire prone area have a personal Bushfire Survival Plan. Preparing a Bushfire Survival Plan will help you to identify your options about leaving early or staying to defend your property and developing a contingency plan.
Stop Bushfire Arson
Bushfire arson is a crime, and a major threat to our community.
The devastation which can occur affects whole communities, and recovery is never quick or easy. Records show that up to 50% of all bushfires across Australia are deliberately lit, or start under suspicious circumstances. This comes at a cost of $1.6 billion to the Australian public annually.
Community meetings and information sessions
Residents in areas at risk of fire need to be self-reliant to ensure their safety from bushfire. If you live or work in an at risk area, you need to develop a practical Bushfire Survival Plan and be prepared.
Community meetings are planned across the State with the aim of raising people's awareness of their bushfire risk, and to work with residents to turn awareness into action. Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) deliver community and school presentations and information sessions.
Program Grasstree (Healthy country - Healthy interface) and Operation Sesbania
‘Program Grasstree’ is our progressive three-year mitigation program supporting sustainable vegetation management and hazard mitigation outcomes. Program Grasstree incorporates technologies and electronics, cultural land management practices, Queensland bioregion and regional ecosystem framework guidelines, community engagement activities, and local knowledge.
Will you stay?
If you decide to stay at your home during a fire, you need to be well prepared.
Defending your home through a bushfire is a demanding task. You need to be mentally and physically ready and you need to have a plan.
