Honours and awards

We value, support and promote the appropriate recognition of our workforce, paid and volunteer, across the department for their bravery, dedication and outstanding service above and beyond what is expected in their roles.

There are many honours and awards that our workforce, paid and volunteer, may be eligible for. These can be national, state or our own awards. More information is detailed in the our Honours and Awards Booklet, including How to wear your Medals.

Referral Agency Advice Forms

We perform an important role as an advice agency for building work assessable against the Building Act 1975.

In the interests of a seamless, transparent Referral Agency Advice process, we have improved the following important forms:

  • Request for Meeting
  • Request for Comment on Fire Engineering Brief
  • Request for Assessment
  • Request for Inspection
  • Documentation Only submission

The below explains when to use these forms:

Tune in to Warnings

Warnings

All Queenslanders should be familiar with the official warning system for fire and hazardous material incidents. When there’s a fire or hazardous material incident in your area, it’s up to you to take notice, stay informed, make decisions and act.

Fire Danger Ratings

Fire Danger Ratings let you know how dangerous a fire would be if one broke out in your area today.

Ratings are calculated using a combination of weather forecasting and information about vegetation that could fuel a fire.

The Australian Fire Danger Rating system (AFDRS) is nationally consistent, so wherever you go in Australia, you can understand the level of threat and what you need to do to stay safe.

Queensland Fire and Rescue history

The history of fire services in Queensland starts in Brisbane, 1860 and continues through many developments and changes to the present-day.

A complete history of fire services in Brisbane from 1860 to 1990 is provided in Brisbane on Fire and Brisbane Ablaze. The books are co-authored by former fire brigade Superintendent Kevin Calthorpe and his brother-in-law Ken Capell.
