Can I use my barbeque or outdoor pizza oven?

NO however, 

Gas (butane or propane) and electric barbecues, including gas and spirit stoves, can be used during fire bans, as long as they:

• do not have the potential to make embers or ignite nearby ground fuels and vegetation (plants)
• are not left unattended
• are suitably contained.

BBQs and pizza ovens which use solid fuels (timber) are prohibited for use during a fire ban. 

Can I use a smoker on my bee box?

YES, beekeepers are permitted to light a bee smoker during a fire ban as a bee smoker is a contained fire.

All beekeepers should use extreme caution when lighting smokers during a fire ban to make sure they can put out any fire, flame, or spark that ignites because of the use of the smoker.

Can I burn off grass, weeds, leaves or other vegetation on my property?

NO, even if you have been issued a Permit to Light Fire. 

All permits to light fires are automatically cancelled during a fire ban. This means fires such as hazard reduction burns, stack burns, vegetation burns, or any other open fire cannot be lit during the fire ban period.

Fire Wardens cannot override a fire ban. Contact your local Fire Warden for more information. 

Can I light a campfire for cooking, warmth or comfort?

NO, campfires are considered open fires and cannot be lit during a fire ban.

This includes a ban on the use of Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services supplied fire-rings and barbecues, wood-fuelled braziers and barbecues and appliances using ash producing fuels or heat beads (e.g. Oz-pigs and similar appliances) in national parks.

Can I use fireworks?

NO, private use of fireworks is illegal in Queensland.  

However, if fireworks can be used for official events during a fire ban period as long as the licenced firework contractors have notified Queensland Fire Department and Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ). 

Specifically, RSHQ mandates the submission of the following:

• written confirmation that the display site as been inspected to ensure the selection of a safe firing site.
• a letter from Queensland Fire Department indicating their non-objection to the display proceeding.
• notification of any special requirements imposed by us on the display.

Can I use my fire pit or brazier?

NO. 

The use of open flame fire pits, braziers, and similar devices is not permitted during a fire ban. Open flames and embers present a high fire risk under these conditions.

Can I use an incinerator?

NO, except industrial or commercial incinerators approved by local councils and operating under a permit may be used, provided they meet all safety and emissions requirements.

Can I use a mower, brush cutter or slasher?

YES, however you need to be extremely careful to minimise any ignition or spread of fire. 

Have a shovel, rake, hose and portable water spray handy. 

Can I smoke cigarettes?

YES, but never throw a cigarette or cigarette butt outside of your vehicle. Dispose of cigarette butts responsibly.

Can I use my welder, angle grinder, solder or tool that produces a spark?

YES, however you need to be extremely careful and be ready with supplies to put out any fire that may start. This could include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur. Make sure you have a water source nearby.
