Safehome is a free program delivered by the Queensland Fire Department to help residents recognise and remove fire safety hazards in and around the home.
The program is designed to reduce the risk of death, injury and property damage from home fires and accidents.
How the program works
The program is delivered by firefighters and involves a home visit which typically takes around 45 minutes to complete. You will be contacted to arrange a time that suits both you and the firefighters. Please note that firefighters may need to leave quickly if they are called to an emergency but will either return afterwards or arrange another time to complete the visit.
Safehome is provided in different ways, depending on where you live. In most areas, firefighters will conduct a fire safety assessment of your home and leave you with a Safehome kit. Firefighters can help you understand smoke alarm requirements and provide advice on the correct positioning for your home, but they cannot install them for you.
If you live in a rural area serviced by volunteer firefighters and request a Safehome visit, you will be contacted about a bushfire property advice visit and provided with a Safehome kit.
Who can request a Safehome vist?
Safehome is available to all Queenslanders to help improve home fire safety.
A visit can only be booked by the person living at the property. If you are renting, you as the tenant should book the visit and not landlord/agent. If we recommend making changes to the property during the visit, such as installing smoke alarms, the tenant should raise these with their landlord/agent.
