Bribie Island - bushfire (as at 4pm)

11/01/2013 4:10:12 PM

A number of bushfires continue to burn in the Bribie Island National Park area, where multiple Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews remain on the ground patrolling and maintaining containment lines. While there is currently no threat to property, a large smoke plume and ash continues to affect areas including White Patch, Banksia Beach, Pumicestone Passage, Sandstone Point, Toorbul and Donnybrook. Smoke may also be seen in the Caboolture and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. People with respiratory illness are advised to keep their medication close by. Motorists, especially on the Bruce Highway, are urged to exercise caution, drive to conditions and be aware of firefighters working in the area. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the blaze was sparked by a camp fire, which then spread throughout the forest.

Please note this advisory cancels the ADVICE message issued at 9.30am.
