Types of Smoke Alarms
There is no general-purpose smoke alarm for all locations. In choosing the correct smoke alarm for a particular location four issues must be considered.
- What is likely to burn?
- What type of fire could I have - one that smoulders or one that is quick to turn into flames?
- Will the smoke given off be visibly dark?
- What other airborne particles are likely to be present with the potential to cause a false alarm i.e. cooking fumes or steam?
