Queensland firefighters attend more than 6000 rescues and medical emergencies each year, responding to a range of emergency situations, including:
- Road accidents - firefighters free victims from road accidents using 'jaws of life' rescue gear
- Floodwater incidents - swift water rescue
- High angle incidents - eg rescues from cliffs
- Confined space accidents - eg people trapped in tanks, drains, etc
- Trench/construction accidents - eg people trapped in trenches on building sites, etc
- Building collapses - search and rescue for people trapped
- Earthquakes - search and rescue for victims.
The QFRS also has a team of more than 60 highly-skilled international disaster responders equipped to attend emergencies anywhere in the world. The team can be assembled and on route to any location worldwide within six hours of notification.
