Far Northern Region
The Far Northern Region stretches from Cardwell in the south-east to the Torres Strait Island communities in the north and the Gulf of Carpentaria in the west. It includes the major city of Cairns and associated agricultural and tourist areas, with the population concentrated around the south-east coast and ranges and scattered in remote communities throughout the rest of the region. As a whole, the region is vulnerable to cyclones and flooding, so collaboration between agencies is actively fostered.
Far Northern Region has 25 urban fire stations, a regional office, 4 area offices, a community safety office, regional workshop and an operational staff of 110 full time and 290 part time firefighters. The Region's Fire Communications Centre is co- located with the Queensland Ambulance Service in Cairns.
